Info-Graph: PTP

For a final project in a media class last semester, I had to do a research paper on an alternative media organization, and then depict my findings in a visual format. I chose to do this by experimenting with the idea of info-graphs. They have always been a beautiful form of media to me, but I had never tried it myself.

For context, the group I researched was Toronto-based organization, The Pink Triangle Press. This longstanding press is Canada’s leading gay & lesbian media organization, and a great resource for LGBT history, culture, and community. Their history is controversial and significant in the fight for LGBT rights in Canada. Today the organization has three main outposts in Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa, and covers a wide variety of mediums.

When creating the design, I loved the visual of their logo (the letter “P” with the shape of a triangle) and wanted to use the three points as major points in the organization’s history. I didn’t want to inundate with too much colour, so I stuck to shades of grey (but don’t worry…not 50) and let pink act as highlights. I wanted to fill the space but try to keep it from becoming too text heavy.

Looking at it in completion, I still feel I could have used more graphics vs. text, but ran out of time for the deadline. As it is, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out for a ‘first try’ in this format.
