Happy International Women’s Day!
For the last 3 years, I have been lucky enough to be a member of the organizing committee for the International Women’s Day Art Show in Orillia, ON.
This year, the committee head asked me to design an invitation card for the theme IDENTITY. We wanted an edgier approach than the show has taken in previous years, creating a bold and contemporary statement.
I decided to choose images from a photoshoot I had recently done of my good friend, Kyra, (a post from that shoot is coming soon…) that could be incorporated further with my own piece for the show.
These are some of the preliminary designs I came up with that ultimately ended up on the cutting room floor, but I felt also carried potential.

Though none of them popped as ‘the one, each presented a different look and feel for the show. We loved the font of the first one, the emotion of the second, and the layout of the third. The final design ended up being a perfect amalgamation of all of these desired aspects.

We were also working of the new brand of the Orillia Museum of Art & History, where the exhibit has been held for the past 4 years, which helped in creating the edgy minimalist approach. The promotional invitation card also had a back-side with more details and an insert of the front-side image.

After these two had been established, variations of this promotion were created for social media and web postings to advertise the exhibit. This was a great exercise in design work and creating a consistent and cohesive brand.
