In follow up to the Fall tri-fold brochure for LUSU Orillia's Cinema Politica, I was brought back to create the winter semester brochure for the 2015 season. The committee wanted a connection to the fall brochure, as the theme of Identity was over-arching for the entire school year, but with its own aesthetic to mirror the atmosphere of this semester's screenings. The six films to be showcased revolve around global and cultural identity, often in politically polarizing situations of activism and life threatening situations.

To connect with last semester, the layout remained basically the same, but this time the design was meant to reflect a pile of public protest posters (versus the privacy of journals last time). I used heavy fonts that were ragged with a lot of texture. This time it had to be bold, brash, and commanding.

For the exterior of the brochure, there needed to be something eye catching but unlike the Fall brochure, I could not come up with individual symbols and signifiers that could represent each film. Instead I went with one symbol that was all encompassing in the themes of the films, most easily summed up by the final film title: cultures of resistence.

The clenched fist is aggressive and powerful, but reverses the role of power to that of the people who stand up in protest - through demonstrations and through art.

Film is a powerful means of protest and we felt each of these films represented that.
